Research and Development at Smart Sensors has primarily focussed on Iris Recognition as a fast and reliable Biometric. In the past Fingerprint and face recognition have also been studied.
At present the main objective is to deliver a more realizable and practical solution to the present day problems faced by the Security Industry, namely, faster verification, large scale identification, better quality metrics leading to intelligent image screening and a more robust overall system performance.
Cooperation with the medical community has led to research into the effects of eye surgery, medication and other related concerns on recognition performance.
One of the biggest contributions of our research team has been the release of the largest publicly available Iris Image Database on the Internet consisting of over 32000 eye images taken from over 800 subjects from a varied ethnic background. |
